A few years ago, around 2004-ish, I used Windows. In general, it hurt. The quick story is that I finally, finally, got fed up with viruses malware, spyware, crapware, re-boots, re-builds, re-installs, maintenance and re-maintenance (a windows only word), and the fucking windows registry which belongs under an elephant turd; and so I threw my pc into the pool - to thwart the possibility of repairs - called the service company who came out and promptly exclaimed, "Hey, this thing is really broken!" They offered a refund, which I almost accepted, but, my atheist ethics got in the way and I confessed my watery-grave ceremony/therapy, paid the price, took the hit, and converted my household and company to Mac. (My old pc laptop is now gilded and framed in glass, hanging on the wall at the office, with a hammer on a chain, and the inscription, "In case of emergency, break glass." It's not there for nostalgia; it is actually because my IT department could not reproduce its programming environment on another machine, what with all the "dll hell" inside. And so it hangs there, as a symbol, somewhat like that statue of Saddam Hussein that was torn down).
I quickly became the Jacksonville Florida Mac store's best customer (no kidding), including the government! I wonder if this says as much about my commitment to efficiency, peace of mind, culture, and creativity as it questions the government's. Once I earned a living writing Windows software. Now I enjoy life and the fantastic people in it; and I have a company that makes a life writing rails apps on Macs.
So now when I'm stuck in an airport, I sit side-by-side with my @kw33n, twittering from our iPhones, mostly to each other! One might think this a geekish or antisocial thing to do, but in fact it is a new form of communication in our evolution, and it is quite romantic.
